Georg Tiller
Managing Director

Biography
*1981 Vienna (Austria)
Georg Tiller is an Austrian director, screenwriter, and producer. After studying philosophy and theatre studies in Vienna, he trained with Harun Farocki at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and studied directing and cinematography with Michael Haneke and Christian Berger at the Vienna Film Academy. In parallel, he continued his directing studies at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb).
His work ranges from documentary and fiction to hybrid projects that expand the boundaries between classical cinema and experimental forms.
Key works include Zaho Zay, White Coal, DMD KIU LIDT, Overnight Flies, and Persona Beach. These films have screened internationally — among others at the Berlinale, IFFR, Hot Docs Toronto, and FIDMarseille — and have received multiple awards, including the Prix Renaud Victor (FIDMarseille) and the Erste Bank MehrWERT Film Prize (Viennale).
As producer and founder of Subobscura Films, based in Vienna and Paris, he oversees international co-productions that have been presented at festivals such as IDFA, CPH:DOX, Visions du Réel, and the Sarajevo Film Festival. Productions he has been involved in have won awards including the ARTE Film Prize at Duisburger Filmwoche and the Heart of Sarajevo for Best International Documentary.
Alongside his work as director and producer, Tiller also creates exhibition projects, shown at venues such as the Bienal de São Paulo, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Luleå Vinter Biennial.
